Activities

Fishing in Mid Wales

Free fishing on the River Severn is available as part of your stay at the cabins (permits are available locally). There is coarse and game fishing - trout, salmon & grayling have been caught by previous visitors. There is other nearby fishing in mid Wales - for example at Llyn Clywedog.

Walking in Mid Wales

Walk the Severn Way - it is approximately 3 days walking to the source of the Severn from the cabins. Transport can be arranged for walking groups. In the other direction you can walk the Severn Way to Welshpool in a day, and get the bus or train back. Other options for walking in Mid Wales include the Kerry Ridgeway (a lovely 15 mile walk from above Newtown to Bishop's Castle), Offa's Dyke path, Glyndwrs Way and the source of the Wye. This is an excellent base for walking in mid Wales.

Cycling in Mid Wales

Cycling - the cabins are on the cycle path along the Montgomeryshire/Shropshire Union canal (National Route 81), which is also the Severn Way. You can cycle into Newtown, or along to Welshpool, from the cabins along the River Severn. Other options include exploring the Hafren forest or cycling the Kerry Ridgeway. Cycle hire is available in Newtown, and for the less energetic, electric powered bicycles are available.

For the energetic why not come and stay and sign up for the Montgomery Canal triathlon on 11th May - cycling, kayaking and walking - about 30 miles in total but you can just do one section if you are not feeling that energetic!

Courses/Activites

Why not come and stay and do some courses locally?  Have you ever wanted to try working with willow, or doing greenwood carpentry?  Lots of courses are available via Get-Growing and most are run locally.  The Wool & Willow Festival is in June in Llanidloes and will be running lots of interesting courses including basket making and felting. If Country Music is your thing visit the Welshpool Country Music Festival in July.
